Ron Moody is the leader, lead singer, and one of the original founding members of Ron Moody and the Centaurs. His first live gig was a private party at the age of 14 in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia. "I was so scared, I had all the lyrics to every song we knew on 5x7 index cards, just so I wouldn't forget!"
At 19, Ron and the band scored with the hit, 'If I Didn't Have A Dime" on Columbia Records. By 1971, the original Centaurs had decided to part ways and Ron and several other members moved to Atlanta with a new name, Ron Moody and the New Dixie Line. The group was promptly signed to MGM South, a subsidiary of MGM Records. Later the group recorded for ABC Dunhill, releasing as a single the Charlie Rich hit, 'Lonely Weekends", backed with a re-make of the Clifford Curry classic, "She Shot A Hole In My Soul."
Ron returned to Virginia in the late 1970s and re-formed The Centaurs in 1980. This band flourished until 2001. During this 21 year stretch, the band released "The Weather's Here, Wish You Were Beautiful" CD which contained the hit, "Southeast Corner of the USA".
From 2001 through 2004, Ron poured all his musical energy into his passion for songwriting. He has written songs for Archie Bell, Eddie Floyd, Sonny Turner of the Platters, The Holiday Band, Maurice Williams, Billy Scott, Paul Craver, and DK Davis, just to name a few.
This is the bands third incarnation. "It's the best band I've ever had!" says Ron proudly. "The world today is in such a weird place that people need to hear our kind of music…it's real and it's timeless!"
"If the key to success in any organization is to surround yourself with good people, then I'm home free", he continues. The seven musicians that follow are superb players. Not only that, they are great people. Each is unique in his own way, but all are dedicated to one common denominator…their love and passion for music. I am extremely fortunate to have been able to put together such an incredible roster of musicians!".
